Founded in 1994, the school is part of the Choede Gömpa Monastery. Currently 80 boys aged eight and older attend the monastery school. In addition to the normal curriculum, the boys receive the centuries-old, traditional training as a Buddhist monk.
The aim of the monastery school is to provide the young monks with both traditional and modern education.
Since 2004 it is also possible to complete further religious studies at the College of the Monastery (Shedra). This allows students to stay in Mustang instead of going to India as they used to. The whereabouts of the young people and their pastoral work in the villages is very important for the population!
