NEW TEACHERS' QUARTER IN NAMDO

Tashi Delek and Namaste!

We are very happy to report that we were able to realize the planned construction of the new house for our teachers and the nurse in Namdo in 2024.

The single-storey house was built on the site next to the school buildings. This new building was necessary because the existing old mud buildings became uninhabitable due to the heavy rainfall in Upper Dolpo. For this reason, the Lo-Manthang School Association decided to initiate the “Teachers' Quarter” project in the summer of 2023.

Together with our project partners in Nepal, Suman Rai, who had already worked as a civil engineer on the new school building, and Tashi Wangyal, President of Bhawi Nepal, Cornelia Pereira Notter and Doris Blank began planning shortly afterwards.

The new house contains:

  • Seven multi-bed dormitories

  • A cozy kitchen with a large dining and lounge area

  • A room in which computer classes can be taught

  • Two large toilet rooms

  • A spacious washroom and shower room

  • Power supply from solar panels on the roof, as well as the option to switch to the village's solar system if required

Our 11 teachers, the cook and the nurse were delighted to move into their new bright and comfortable rooms in mid-September.

Thanks to the generosity of our long-standing sponsors, the financing of the construction project, which cost CHF 144,985, was secured through earmarked donations, for which we are very grateful.

On September 20, the new teaching building was duly inaugurated together with the entire school team, the pupils, their parents and the entire village population. Cornelia Pereira Notter and her group traveled to Namdo especially for this joyous occasion. A big thank you to everyone who actively helped to realize this project!

Further interesting details can be found in the final report with interesting pictures and the video.
