TSECHHEN SHEDRUB LING MON GON LOBDRA
MONASTIC SCHOOL IN LO-MANTHANG

Founded in 1994, the school is part of the Choede Gömpa monastery. Around 75 boys aged eight and over currently attend the monastery school. In addition to the normal curriculum, the boys receive the centuries-old traditional training to become Buddhist monks.

The aim of the monastery school is to provide the young monks with an education centred on tradition and modernity. They then have the opportunity to complete further religious studies (shedra) in Kagbeni. This allows the students to stay in Mustang instead of going to India, as was previously the case. It is very important for the population that the young people remain in the villages and continue their pastoral work!

The Monastic School project is going very well and is no longer dependent on our support. We are continuing the current sponsorships, but are not taking on any new ones.
